Position Overview:

​

KMA Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking an Entry-Level Geotechnical & Pavement Engineer with 0 to 4 years of experience to join our growing Geotechnical & Pavement Engineering Departments in KMA's Cherry Hill, NJ office. The candidate will assist in the geotechnical & pavement designs of transportation engineering projects in both an office and field setting. Candidates should have a background with applying engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. The candidate will complete technical analyses/calculations and write engineering reports. The candidate will also perform test boring inspection, in-situ testing, pavement core inspection, and pavement field tests (FWD, DCP, etc.). Experience with NJDOT, PennDOT, NJTA, NJ and PA Counties and/or other MPO’s is a plus.

Job Responsibilities:​

​

• Obtain geotechnical data/provide oversight of drilling and other geotechnical investigation/data gathering programs including logging of borings, test pits, and pavement cores

• Develop and apply knowledge of the project-area geology and develop geotechnical engineering properties

• Review geotechnical laboratory data for conformance with applicable testing standards

• Prepare and complete geotechnical engineering analyses and designs

• Prepare project reports, plans, designs, and calculations

• Prepare project quantity and cost estimates

• Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects

• Help check work of project team members including subconsultants

The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, as well as independently, under direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer.​​​

Requirements:

​

• Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university/program

• Familiarity with CADD software platforms: Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferences:

​

• Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical or Pavement focus)

• Master or Minor in Geology

• Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD design methodology and DOT design requirements

• Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification

• Proficiency with geotechnical and software (e.g. APile, LPile, GRLWEAP, GROUP, SHAFT)

• Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation

Travel:

​

Occasional need to drive/travel to work sites (mostly day travel within NJ with the possibility for some overnight travel to adjoining states).  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Company vehicles will be made available.
