Entry-Level Bridge & Geotechnical Engineer

Position Overview:

​

KMA Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Bridge & Geotechnical Engineer join our growing Bridge & Geotechnical Engineering Departments at our Cherry Hill, NJ office. The candidate will assist in the bridge & geotechnical designs for transportation engineering projects, both in the office and in the field. Candidates should have experience applying engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects of varying size and complexity. Responsibilities include performing technical analyses/calculations, writing engineering reports, and conducting test boring inspections, in-situ testing, pavement core inspections, and field tests (FWD, DCP, etc.). Experience with NJDOT, PennDOT, NJTA, and NJ/PA counties or other MPOs is a plus.

Responsibilities: â€‹â€‹

  • Prepare project reports, plans, designs, and calculations

  • Prepare project quantity and cost estimates

  • Obtain geotechnical data/provide oversight of drilling and other geotechnical investigation/data gathering programs including logging of borings, test pits, and pavement cores

  • Correlate and interpret field and laboratory results for use in analyses

  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects

  • Help check work of project team members including subconsultants

  • The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, as well as independently, under direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer.​​

​Requirements:​

  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university/program

  • Familiarity with CADD software platforms: Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD design methodology and DOT design requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferences:​​

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical or Structural focus)

  • Proficiency with geotechnical and structural software (e.g. STAAD, RISA, CSIBridge, PennDOT Design Program Suite, APile, LPile, GRLWEAP, DeepEX, GROUP, SHAFT)

  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation

Travel:

​Occasional need to drive/travel to work sites (mostly day travel within NJ with the possibility for some overnight travel to adjoining states).  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Company vehicles will be made available.
