Route 9, Atkinson Ave. to Bayview Dr. Roundabout Alternative
KMA Consulting Engineers, Inc. was featured in The Press of Atlantic City as well as the Shore News Today regarding a proposed Conceptual Design Alternative for the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) project, Route 9, Atkinson Avenue to Bayview Drive located in the City of Somers Point and the City of Absecon, Atlantic County, NJ. This Pavement Resurfacing Project will rehabilitate the existing roadway surface while addressing full American with Disabilities (ADA) needs (curb ramps and sidewalks) and traffic signals within the project limits.
NJDOT supported the Roundabout alternative, as it would have promoted traffic calming and improved safety, all within the current NJDOT ROW, at the existing signalized intersection at Pitney/Mill Road/Route 9 in Absecon. However, due to the lack of support from the community and the Local Officials in Absecon, this Alternative is not being considered at this time. KMA wrote an inclusive white paper discussing how this intersection would benefit; it included relevant, peer-reviewed and supported article information highlighting increased traffic safety, greater operational performance, congestion mitigation, greater pedestrian mobility, gateway focus treatment and elimination of conflict points within the intersection.
KMA Now Has Pavement Coring Capabilities
KMA now has the capability to perform pavement coring for our clients.
Our coring machine can acquire both concrete and asphalt pavement cores. It is a trailer-mounted, gas- operated coring machine, and has the capability to take core diameters ranging from four to sixteen inches.
Gas operation is 3-4 times faster than electric drill coring machines. This, coupled with quick set-up and tear-down, saves costs and minimizes lane closure times.
