Culvert Repairs at Garden State Parkway Mileposts 112 to 113

Location: Middletown Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey

Client: Boswell Engineering, Inc.

Owner: NJTA

Phase: Design Phases A and B

Status: Final Design Underway

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) has retained Boswell Engineering, Inc. to provide design services for culvert repairs between mileposts 112 and 113 of the Garden State Parkway under NJTA OPS No. P3782.  There are two 120-inch corrugated metal pipe culverts to be addressed in the design services: One crossing the northbound roadways at milepost 112.42N, and a second that crosses the southbound roadways at milepost 112.51S.  These structures convey Nut Swamp Brook Unnamed Tributary.  In addition to rehabilitating the culverts mentioned above, this project includes the replacement of additional connecting corrugated metal pipe culverts within the project limits.

As part of design services, KMA has been subcontracted to perform surveying, prepare project base mapping, and carry out environmental services, including an environmental screening, a wetland delineation, and preparation of NJDEP Division of Land Resource Protection permit applications.

The wetland delineation was performed by qualified wetland scientists from KMA to identify jurisdictional wetlands and State open waters.  Wetland identification and delineation were conducted using the three-parameter approach (hydrology, soils, and vegetation) in accordance with the Federal Manual for Identifying and Delineating Jurisdictional Wetlands (1989).

Environmental permits procured for this project included a NJDEP Flood Hazard Area Control Act (FHACA) Individual Permit and a Freshwater Wetlands General Permit.
